It's Sharing Time!

Assalammualaikum and good day, dear readers.

So, it is post-SPM. No more schools. No more hostels. No more assignments. No more boring meals.
Wow, awesome. Right? Or, boring? Well, it's depend on how you spend your so-called holidays. Haha. It is indeed holidays but do not forget you still have a long journey ahead! It's planning time!

So, maybe most of you guys are still in the holiday mood but stop! I mean, pause! Sit for awhile, and think what course are going to take in the future. But first, figure out what your passions are. Meh, You should have figured out by now, because it will help you in determining your future. But if you have not, while spending time on Twitter, Facebook, and stuffs, you could hit the Google Search button and search for 'Personality Tests' or 'Career Tests' to find out what your passions really are.
However, my main point of writing this post is I want to share with you guys what some of Kolej PERMATApintar Negara (QuadP) ex-students are doing right now and maybe they could help you in making decision for your next steps later. If you have further questions feel free to contact them through those mediums stated below. Enjoy!

I'm majoring in Physics at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona, US. Class of 2017. In Sophomore year, which is 2nd year. Sponsored by KPM under MyBrainSc program. MyBrainSc only allow the students to pursue in pure sciences.
Some people might say that Physics is the most tough major which it is. I don't mean to scare anybody but that's reality. But, once you manage to handle and catch up everything, it is quite easy, for me. Different people have their own opinion. Some of my friends here said that you will get the true major. It means that we will going to what a major suppose to be. Physics is fun. You learn everything happen around you. Everything you will study is just a point particle. No matter how big the thing is. You will be impress on almost everything around you when you learn Physics. I want to further my study in Civil Engineering, but I can do so in Master. Hopefully. Physics is the basic of other science subjects. Either you take economics, dentistry, biology, you will learn Physics.

Goodluck in the future and don't scare to try something new. Not the bad things okay.

I've also taken TOEFL, SAT I, SAT Math, and SAT Biology. I've applied to 4 American colleges before, had a friend who worked part time at Escape Room while taking her full time degree. I'd love to share so don't hesitate to ask!

I'm doing A-levels right now in Kolej MARA Seremban. But we also have IB programme here so I might be able to answer a few basic questions about it also.

Regarding A-Level at KMS, you're gonna be doing 3 core subjects for 2 years and another half subject for a year. At the end of the first year, you'll sit for AS which is the first part of getting your AL certificate and you'll do the rest, A2, at the end of your study here. Basically, you're able to do well in AS, you can concentrate better on A2. But if you don't, then you'll have to repeat it with A2. I mind you, it's a lot. Especially if you're thinking about furthering in Engineering. You fail AS, you're gonna have to sit for 7 papers per subject in A2. So there's a reason why they divide 2 years worth of syllabus for us. If you're still confused, just think is like this, AS + A2 = A Level. And you could always contact me if you need more information about it.

For KMS, we have a really tight knit community here. The teachers are very helpful but the students seldom seek them for help. So if you're thinking of coming here, make sure that you'll get the full use of the teachers' assistance. The style of teaching is also very different from what we were used to at QuadP. The teachers paid attention to every details in class and they also explain it one by one. So if you pay attention in class, you won't have much problem to understand the topics.

Next, about the facilities, we don't have buffet here but what we do have is the dining hall and the mak cik's cooking is quite nice and it's free!. Though I have to mind you that it's spicy. At weeknight, if you're still hungry, we have 'masakan panas' and burger which of course you'll have to pay for. And if you want fast food, KFC, McD, Dominos and Pizza Hut all have delivery service right to our hostel's gate. If that is not enough, we also have 'Koop' which sells pretty much everything that you need on a daily basis. You can find junk food, instant noodles, bread 'Gardenia', canned beverages and so much more. It sometimes opens till midnight, depending on the person in charge.

Moving on, we also have a laundry service where you'll pay for the fee at the beginning of each semester. All you have to do is drop your laundry basket and your bottle of detergent in front of the 'Dobi' in the morning, and it'll be done by the time you finish your class in the afternoon. Of course you're gonna have to hang it dry afterwards or you could always opt to pay for an extra ringgit to have your clothes dried for you. Laundry day is twice a week per students.

Now, I'm gonna tell about the rooms. There will be three single beds in each room with their own cupboard/locker, study table and chair. Everything is comfy but I have to say the locker is way smaller than the one in QuadP hostel so you might not want to bring too much clothes here. As for the bathroom, it's communal just like in QuadP. And oh yes! We have a lights off curfew here where the main lights will be automatically be turned off at exactly 1.45 am and will only be available again at around 5.30 am daily. But don't worry, the fan will still be working and if you need more time to study, you can turn on your study lamp -which you'll have to bring your own.

And finally, the Islamic programme here is also tremendous. Apart from the subject that you'll have to learn for either AL or IB, we also have Agama Islam for the muslims. Which is a must pass subject if you wanna fly oversea. We also have a lot of activities at the surau where we invite guest speakers every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday night, Usrah on Tuesday night and many more that are organized by the committee members.

I think I have blabbered a lot here.
And I'd be surprised if anybody have read up until here. So that's about what you need to know about life in KMS and as an AL student. If you wanna know more, just email me or contact me through social media. Do introduce yourself or otherwise I'd be thinking that it's some kind of spam. That'a all folks! Bye! And thanks for reading this lengthy post.

Assalamualaikum... ni cakap bm boleh x? Huhu... ok la, in English. Kang japgi malu plak kan. Hehe...
By the way, my name is Zahiruddin Zahwan Bin Yahaya. Nothing special about me. My stream of study? Pfft.... maybe one in a thousand will like it. Do want to know? Aah, just ignore it. Hahaha... since lower form at my previous school, I prefer to study about some sort of religious matter especially the Islam. See. Ha ha ha. Laugh it. Plus, at PERMATA also, not many students chose like mine. It s okay. Everyone has their own path. Just, go with our own and try the best. Go for it.

Oh, right now, I m studying at Centre for Foundation Studies International Islamic University of Malaysia. Taking course of Arabic language. Final semester, insya Allah.I admit it, it is very interesting here. A lot of courses, societies and of course a lot of friends. A lot of friends means a lot of backgrouds and personalities. And a lot of them means a lot of opinions and thinking. What I want to say is that here, insya Allah, our mind widen. Learn how to think out of the box. Really. If we were too proud of our "pintar" but sorry, it s not applied here. Hahaha... hope we feel proud. I mean too proud until we don't look behind and our feet.

Plus, as I mentioned earlier, it s INTERNATIONAL Islamic. Just want you to focus at the INTERNATIONAL because some people will have some kind of weird or uncomfortable feeling about Islam. Pfft... get a life please. So, here we were taught to study on how to communicate with internationalist. Hahaha.... okay it s Centre for Foundation Studies, at least we are preparing to do so. Besides, the most important thing is, we here are shaped, okay not shaped but are taught under comfortable peaceful Islamic environment. Maybe not 100 percent Islamic, but it s really great here. And, insya Allah, here we are also taught with beautiful Islamic ethics.

About courses, they are divided into two; science stream and art stream. Science stream is such as Allied Health Science, Physics and Chemistry. While art stream is such as languages course.

Oh, before we start our lectures or once we registered here, we are obligated to take EPT (English Placement Test) and APT (Arabic Placement Test). International. Hahaha... oh, the EPT is quite same as MUET level.

I think maybe that s all. I just dont have any more idea to write on. Hahaha... just it s my responsibility to share the experience I have. So, just want you to prepare yourself for the next stage. Ok. All the best in your life. Yohoho

Kem Unit Beruniform & Jati Diri

Preface: We greatly apologize for the infrequent updates for the past 4-5 months. We hope you readers would bear with us and keep on anticipating news from us. Thank you for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience(s) caused.

On the 20th - 22nd June, 2014, all of PERMATApintar students (i.e. Foundation 1, Level 1 and Level 2 students) went on a camping trip to Kempville Beach Resort, Kuantan Pahang. The main objective of this year's camp was to expose students to disasters and how to handle them. On the previous two days, there was a First Aid Workshop (Bengkel Pertolongan Cemas) as the students would be sitting for the First Aid exam on the last day of the camp to obtain a certificate in First Aid.

After an exhausting 6-hour journey to the campsite, the students set up their home (which was in the form of a really large canopy) for the next three days. This camp's Penghulu was Nur Azim while the Penghuluwati was Shaspreet. On the first night, a fellow fire department officer briefed us about disasters, sharing with us his experience in various near-death situations including the hair-raising Highland Tower tragedy. Next was a slot for Jati Diri, where the students played games which involved some focus, determination and a whole lot of wackiness.

On the next day, the morning session was filled with introduction to facilities that would've been used in the case of a real disaster. This would help prepare the students for the not-even-close-to-real-life-but-is-nevertheless-very-challenging disaster simulation. The five stations included the Command Support Group station, treatment station which consisted of an ambulance, medication and a really awesome tent made in Norway, radio amateur station where the students learned how the communication in a disaster looks like, the "make-up" station where fake wounds and bulging eyeballs looked real and the First Aid station.

Later in the afternoon: Code Red. This is when students were expected to apply each and every knowledge that they have gained earlier. Students were divided into six zones, each with different situations and challenges. The word chaotic doesn't begin to explain how things went in Code Red. There were screams and shouts everywhere and the rescuers were doing their best to help the injured. In the control unit, things were getting out of hand, what with the arrival of people from the Ministry and the communication interruption and whatnot. It may not be as close to any real-life disasters, but it was enough to let the students know how tough the job is. After hours, the simulation finally ended and everyone was safe and sound. The students successfully retrieved all victims despite the confusion(s) that had occurred.

A happy victim
After cleaning-up, the students were celebrated with some BBQ. Hooray! What would a camp be without BBQ, huh? It was an enjoyable night with music and games, now that the simulation was over.

On the last day of camp, just as expected, the students sat for the PC exam. The closing ceremony was held afterwards with the long-awaited prize-giving ceremony, for those who performed outstandingly during the simulation. Here are the winners:

Pelakon terbaik
Nurul Qistina Hashim
Nuraini Aguse
Abul Munzeer Mohd Isa

Pengarah Filem Terbaik
Nurain Nasuha Tajul Arafat

The students did a gotong-royong before leaving the campsite. We departed at around 1 p.m., stopping by at Teluk Cempedak before heading home. It was indeed a very great memory for all members of QuadP.

Olahraga

For the first time in 3 years of Quad P history, this school has finally participated in Olahraga MSSD. With Cikgu Wan as their dedicated mentor, these 32 students were trained almost every evening in events which include 200m, 800m, long jump and much more. Some of these students used to be athletes back in their previous school. The only difference is that they will now be representing Pusat PERMATApintar Negara.

This 4-day event was held at Stadium UKM which is not at all far from our school and was joined by a total of 69 schools in this district. The finale was marching from every participating schools. PERMATA did earn a Bronze medal by Al Waqifie (4K1) who participated in discus throw. The devotion and perseverance displayed by the all athletes are something to be proud of. All hail PERMATA!

Proud to be a QuadPian

Cultural Day

Finally, QuadP has its very own Cultural Day. With 6 cultures participating, this event aims to enlighten the students of various cultures both internationally and domestically. The 6 cultures include French, Korean, Japanese, Borneo, Punjabi and Arabians. Each of these cultures are required to set up a booth, do a performance and have a fashion show. Most cultures present famous cuisines while some others offer games or services like inai.

Instructors were also present during this festive event. It began with recitation of doa and singing of the three songs before the booth tour started. French featured the all-time favourite macaroons, Japanese with their miso soup, rice crackers and sushi, Korean with their Ramyeon, Borneo with their laksa Sarawak and mee kolok, Punjabi with their herbal tea and Arabians with their Nasi Arab.

Each culture wore clothes according to their respective customs. At around 10.30, everyone's attention was shifted to the stage for a variety performances before proceeding with a fashion show. Every student exhibited their spirit and knowledge in the culture that they represented amazingly.

Next, the event was continued with the Chinese New Year celebration. The moral students prepared an act that shows the true tradition of the Chinese. All in all, that day was splendid and everyone had a blast. The best part is that the event succeeded in bringing the whole school - seniors, juniors and college staffs - closer together.

Maulidur Rasul 1435H

Orientation Week

The 2014 Orientation week has come and gone, and now the Level 1 and Foundation 1 students are taking their first steps into a treacherous journey in PERMATApintar. 20th January marks the date of their arrival, and at night was their very first activity: LDK. Activities include walking clock, I am not alone and birthday circle.

The next four days were filled with team-building activities and a bit of an introduction of what they would face in the near future. They exchanged shoes to have a literal insight of the idiom "to be in somebody else's shoes", they built a tower using playing cards, they constructed a spaghetti+jelly+straw tower that could withstand the weight of 60++ transparency paper and they sang songs together. There was a community tree placed at the back of the multipurpose hall for them to paste anything positive.

All of the seniors helped out both directly and indirectly in making the week a memorable one. From Tuesday to Thursday, two classes performed their senamrobik for the evening aerobic session. In the morning, the seniors assisted their morning exercise. Oh, and this week would've gone well if it weren't for the assistance given by the teachers and counselors.

A closing ceremony was held on Friday, and this marks the end of the 2014 orientation week. This is a new beginning guys, not only for the juniors but the seniors as well. In a nutshell, it is up to you yourself to choose between being happy or sad at being a QuadP student. The most important thing is, we are one big family and we've got each other's backs.

Arrival

A very special day indeed! After almost a whole month of anticipation, the Foundation 1 and Level 1 students of 2014 are finally here. Registration started as early as 8.30 a.m. and everyone is equally excited about their arrival. Looks of curiosity and eagerness can be clearly seen on their faces. The seniors even helped deliver their baggage up to their rooms. This is truly a new year to look forward to. Hopefully PERMATA will give birth to young, intelligent and successful students, both here and in the hereafter.

K3 Movie Night

It's Saturday night, and you know what that means? 5K3 is having their very own movie night! Aimed to raise funds for their CADS voluntary project, they sell foods and beverages for all to enjoy during the movie-watching. They're offering domino's pizza, hot dogs and floats to name a few. It seems that the students are enjoying the night. Time to chillax B)

New Students!

This just in. The list of students offered to Program Pendidikan PERMATApintar has been released! Imagine, for one whole year, no new students were ever admitted to this program; and now, a whole new year means a whole new batch! Wait, there's more. This year, we'll be expecting foundation students too (equivalent to Form 1 though totally different in terms of syllabus).

We're hearing (or reading) loads and loads of excitement from the students-to-be, and are of course equally thrilled ourselves. Courtesy of a fellow Quad P student, Khairul Ain (a rising senior) who recently posted a few important tips on facebook, we bring you "Things you should know before becoming a Quad P student"

1. It's not easy! If you're the type who would never read a book before a test and ace it, you might just change because trust me, you need to work HARD.

2. Be prepared to receive a HUGE amount of workload. It's part of the package (do refer to number 1). For our examinations, we use the 60-40 system. 60% of the mark is from the test and 40% is from your coursework. This includes presentations, projects, etc.

3. Just so you know that the stream of work is endless so brace yourself and just go through it! Though, I would say, it's not that bad. The assignments that the instructors give you are interesting and out-of-the-box. They help you to develop soft skills too.

4. This is important - we practice INDEPENDENT STUDYING here. This simply means that you can't just rely 100% on your instructors to convey you everything that you should be learning. No spoon feeding, yo! You have to make your own revisions. The instructors are always there to help you out but you must be PROACTIVE (else how would they know you're in need of help?).

5. It's tough being a pioneer. There's a lot of deficiencies and you should try to accept them. If you are unsatisfied with something, try to overcome them.

6. In order to get an A+, you need to score a 95 (just throwing it out there).

7. Don't expect perfection and QuadP is not the place for entertainment.

8. Take the opportunity to try new things.

Some happy faces
It's not about how everything goes in Quad P, it's about how we go through them.

Big Bad Wolf

Ahoyy! Attention all Malaysians out there! Book-lovers, boys and girls alike. The Big Bad Wolf book sale is back! Set sail to Seri Kembangan NOW and be part of the world's biggest book sale.

The sale starts on Dec 6 till Dec 15, 24 hours non-stop. Books go to as low as RM3.

So, what are you waiting for? Get off your seats and drag bring your family along! This is an opportunity not to be missed. Don't miss out for the pirates will be on their way in a few days' time. Arrrrrr. Go to their website (yup, pirates have internet too) for more info.

She's just... there...

Jati Diri Camp Prodigy

Tanjung Malim Perak. That's where the Level 1 students of PERMATApintar headed for the much-anticipated Jati Diri camp. Unlike the previous unit-beruniform camp, this camp serves to develop us together. The 2-to-3-hour-long journey meant nap time for some students, and chat time for others. Upon arrival, our belongings were left behind to be taken by a truck whilst we ourselves had to go on foot. It was probably 15-20 minutes before we reached our destination, and a few more minutes before our belongings arrived. Kem Desa Selesa(lah sangat).

Jambatan Gantung Desa Selesa Camp
The students put on different expressions as they set eyes on the jambatan gantung. Some were overjoyed; others, terrified. The trick is to walk with a steady pace, and to not stop for the bridge would be even more wobbly. Soon, rain poured and some of the students were drenched. In the hall, we were greeted by the head facilitator, who was really good at making jokes. A briefing of the activities and a pelantikan penghulu dan penghuluwati became the head start of the camp. After getting no objections and no other suggestions, it was agreed that Nur Azim and Nur Izzati Hamizah be our penghulu and penghuluwati respectively.

That night, we had some kind of ice breaking activity before being assigned into groups. Each were given "money" that would be worth throughout camp, and would be used for dealing with the facilitators and the like. Our goal: to obtain at least RM2500 by the end of the camp by winning competitions and running errands which is better known as "tender". We do the chores, they give money. That's the deal.

Right after, we had to face the (dreaded) night walk. It was exciting, really, to be out there in the forest all alone in the middle of the night. Yup. At least the people ahead and behind are somewhat visible. 30 or so minutes later, we were "rescued". Not all actually. Some of us got left behind.
Senamrobik
Day 2 was kicked start with a senamrobik. Next: jungle trekking. It was practically the same route that we used last night, although not as ghastly. At one point, we were required to build a campfire and cook an egg and half a potato. Some of the teams made it, some less fortunate only managed a spark. Nevertheless, it did remind us of the importance of having survival skills. We moved on to the river, but this time, the lightest member of the team had to be lifted by the members. Back pain. It was meant for us to learn the importance of cooperation in a group.

Explorace awaited us late in the afternoon. I guess all of us would agree that the best thing about the explorace was the rain. We were like running and screaming in the rain, focusing on the race rather than the weather. That night, we had talentime. The groups' performance varied and all were very interesting and humorous.
Closing Ceremony
The third and last day. We prepared for the closing ceremony. It was difficult to accept the fact that all of this would be over and getting back to school. Spending time with those that we rarely interacted with, doing things that we probably won't do ever, sharing toilets, living in one huge dormitory, cooperating in a team to reach a goal and finishing chores like washing the dishes, serving food and leading the senamrobik. It was an experience never to be forgotten by the Level 1 Students of PERMATApintar 2013. May the bond be stronger than brass, tougher than steel.

#there happens to be some technical difficulties with the photos. will upload is on flickr as soon as the problem is solved :)

The Princess's Visit

On the 12th of November 2013, PERMATApintar once again welcomed a very the princess of Brunei Darussalam for her royal visit. Pangeran Anak Sarah is the wife of the Crown Prince of Brunei, Al-Muhtadee Billah. She came along with her son to observe the activities and facilities in PERMATApintar National Gifted Centre. Although the students were still in their examination week, they still showed enthusiasm and participated well during the visit.

A few students did a musical performance in the Seminar Room. Others were stationed in labs or classes according to their respective classes. The rest waved flags along the entrance. Two students, Khairul Ain and Rahazimah, were selected to be the "Herb Kids", that is, to explain each and every herb there is at the blok makmal. Two lucky students, Maneesha and Nurafifah Natrah, were chosen to present a bouquet of flowers to the princess.

What was great about the visit was she left the students with chocolates. It was definitely an honourable visit from the royal family of Brunei.

Photos of the visit can be found here

How To Download Photos on Flickr

Mid-Autumn Festival

If you look up in the sky tonight, you'll be able to see the full moon. A magnificent sight. The sky is clear, no cloud to obscure the moon. The night is nice and pleasant.

The mid-autumn festival, like the name suggests, is celebrated by the Chinese during mid-autumn. And since the only season we have here in Malaysia is fruit season, we can define mid-autumn festival as a mooncake festival held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, during a full moon, which is in September or early October.

QuadP students don't want to miss out on this meaningful event. Lots of students signed up and by 9.30, all of them gathered at the multi-purpose hall. The event started with a video on Mid-Autumn festival. "Whenever they are far away from loved ones, they would often look at the full moon and think of those they miss". Although there were a bit technical difficulties, everyone remained patient.

Next stop: riddles. In order to own the cute cartoon lanterns, one must come up front and answer a corresponding riddle. Congrats to those who managed to run up on stage and shout the right answer out.

The main attraction of the whole event: mooncake-eating. That's right, there was a variety of different-flavoured mooncakes, ranging from the infamous lotus to the bizarre mixed-nuts thingy.

The second attraction: walking around with lanterns. Yes, the ones who did not get the chance to answer the riddle still obtained one lantern each. After fixing the candle inside the lantern, we started our night-walk. "We don't want anyone burning their lanterns," they say, but look at how many people ended up with toasted lanterns. It was a bit funny if you ask me. Can't help but giggle at lanterns on fire.

We strolled till we reach the lot beside boys' hostel. That's where students started taking out their phones and cameras to take photos. It was a very breathtaking: all the lanterns illuminating colourful light in the otherwise dark place. And more burning lanterns.

Then, we went back to the hall, ready for more: games.

Thanks guys for spending your time reading this post~
