Wanna Apply for Warwick

Interested in Economics? Accounting? Mathematics? Then Warwick is the place for you! Much like our very own UKM, Warwick University is located in the "jungle", amongst the greenery and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you think you are a nature-lover, Warwick is certainly the place for you. This university also boasts as top 10 in the UK.

A representative from the university came to give a talk on to the PERMATA students.

Good news for all Malaysians! This university, holding more than 300 Malaysian students, has its very own Malaysian Society. "New Malaysian students won't have a problem in adapting because they'll get assistance from their seniors," says the speaker. And it doesn't just stop there. They have an annual Malaysian night! How cool is that? For the Muslims, worry not because Warwick has a Muslim prayer hall (I guess that's the mosque), with an Imam to give regular talks.
Campus

For students' accommodation, freshmen are guaranteed an on-campus room. Oh, and the food are self-catered, which means you guys will have to learn how to cook (if you want to eat tasty food there).

During the Q&A session, Yew Yang received a Warwick pen for posing a question. The others manage to grab the Warwick magazine. It was such an inspirational talk. Hope to get more guests in the future.

Level 2 students are busying themselves with their study week for they are about to face their trials next week (wow, that sounds kinda huge, huh) Everyone's excited.. I guess. Well, among all these students, there are some who decided to barge into classes in their baju raya, snatch the photo frame, and take pics of themselves for reasons unknown. Layan ja..

When Manchester University Came

On August 16th, the Manchester University sent it team right here in PERMATApintar to brief the students about their college. The talk was attended by ASASIpintar students, along with some Level 2 and Level 1 students. As it was still the school hols, not many were High School students were able to come. However, the event went on smoothly and the students gained an awful lot of information.

Future Scientists Conference PERMATApintar

The Future Scientist Conference is back! Much better known as FSC13, this event is aimed for Level 2 students of PERMATApintar and also other participating schools. Held on 20-22 of August, this event kicked start with a grand dinner. Prof Noriah, in her opening speech, gave us hints that there would probably be participants from neighbouring countries in the near future.

VIPs dining table, Professor Dr. Noriah(centre), Dr. Haji Muhamad Arif(right side of Prof) and other VIPs.
(you can clearly see the students lining up to get food at the back)
During the dinner, we were entertained by some performances including gamelan, sajak, instrumental music and also a musical band singing raya songs. Despite the really long queue to get food, we really enjoyed the night. *Anugerah Syawal*

Quad P's Acoustics Band

DAY 2

A speech from Mr Hakimie, exposing us to the real concept of research. After the half-hour speech, the participants were allowed to leave for the multi-purpose hall to set-up. In other news, 4K1, 4K2, 4K3 and 4K4 students had to see Mr Mohd Nor to hand in their files. And they had to do it in person, which means... An office packed with kids waiting for their turn to see the teacher.

Mr Hakimie, Quad P's Counselor, giving a speech entitled "Research"
The exhibition started at around 10.30. The hall was quickly transformed into some kind of fair, with all the exciting colours and dazzling gifts (seriously, the souvenirs were very attractive). Level 1 students came in on shifts to visit the booths. The researches were all very interesting, ranging from psychology to biology to architecture.

"Save The Earth, Save The Coral" booth.

DAY 3

After much anticipation, the results are finally out. But before that there was a session of experience-sharing from the students from other schools. Alhamdulillah, they all gave positive comments and seemed to have really enjoyed their experience here.

And the winner is... *drum roll*.. EVERYONE! Yes, here in FSC, everyone is a winner. The students witnessed receivers of bronze, silver and gold medals. The following are top 3 researches:
3. Solar Flare
2. SEMASHUR
1. Waves: Save Your Homes

And so ends another spectacular event here in PERMATApintar.
Again, congratulations to everyone. As for Level 1 students, are you guys ready for the next FSC?

Exams? Huh? Exams? What?

School reopened, welcoming its students warmly. And what better way to start school than to have an exam. A huge round of applause for that. Well, typically the students, because it was just after Raya celebration, came in with kuih raya (but nobody seemed to be kind enough to bring duit raya *sigh*). Okay, it's no doubt that some, or most, or all of the students are still in holiday mode, but all of them seem very focused on the exams.

The Level 1 exams started on Monday and ends on Thursday the following week. Meanwhile, Level 2 students are making their final preparation for the upcoming FSC. Yes, everyone is busy. The level 2 students are going to be facing their trials in a matter of weeks.

There are quite a few types of exam-takers in this school.
1. Those who are completely ready, had their revision all done during holidays. Came to school without anything to worry about
2. Those who are partially ready. Does some last-minute revision before entering the exam hall
3. Those who are kinda ready. Stayed up a bit late. Had a can or two of Nescafe.
4. Those who are so anxious. They become owls or burung hantu with (or without) the help of Nescafe.

Whichever you are, all the best!

At Least Mama RM is Here

It's the Nuzul Quran weekend and a whole bunch of students are heading home. For those who stay, however, get to attend the Petronas Scholarship Presentation Ceremony. And then there's Mama RM :D

Mama! Y U no bring papa?

"Woww.. I'm so femes.. Tapi kenapa kamera tu tak menghadap sini?"

congratulations to all!

Throughout those 3 days of balik bermalam, the hostel was so deserted. It was krik krik.. So lots of the students went for bazaar while others went for outings with their respective classes. As a result, rasa lonely lah budak-budak yang tinggal tu..

Mawhiba - A Late Update

As we all know, there was a Mawhiba-CTY-PERMATApintar All Girls Summer Camp (that's a mouthful) from 14th June to 4th July 2013. MAWHIBA, meaning "giftedness" in Arabic. A total of 14 Level 1 girls were selected for this program, along with 13 Arabians and 2 Indonesians. There were 2 courses in this camp: Biomedical Science and Astrophysics.

Waiting for their arrival
